Some of us use moe for so cute and pitiful it's triggering one's protector instinct, rather than so cute and pitiful you want to fuck it. Example of the former: newborn ugly-cute kittens. I am however under no delusion of it not being just a sub-definition in a very limited circle, and do try to avoid using it as the former at generic sites online, as it will be misunderstood entirely too easy.
